Vintage Clothing Store JAM - Vintage Enthusiast Interview

Tell us about your history with vintage clothing.
I’ve been into vintage clothing for about 10 years now.

What made you start liking vintage clothing?
I got introduced to it through skateboarding.

The first time I went to a vintage store was with a senior of mine. That store specialized in surf, old-school skate, and hippie-style items. The shop owner had long hair, wore flared denim, and a jacket that looked like something from North Beach. I was drawn to the West Coast vibe and started going to the store regularly. I think that’s when I naturally started to fall in love with vintage clothing.

What vintage item are you currently looking for?
Right now, it’s Columbia items. I’ve been collecting a lot of outdoor vintage pieces, and Columbia has so many appealing items. I’ve decided to focus on collecting specific lines from this brand, especially the [PFG (Performance Fishing Gear)] and the [DELTA MARSH JACKET].

Why do you want those vintage items?
PFG, as the name suggests, is designed for fishing, so it has practical features that are also incredibly stylish as fashion pieces, which is why I love it.

For example, when I go fishing, there are loops to hold the rod in place while setting up lures, and features like sleeves that can be adjusted for sudden weather changes. You can roll up the sleeves a few times and secure them with inner loops in no time—it’s super functional.

The DELTA MARSH JACKET appeals to me because of its wide variety of camouflage patterns and its 3-in-1 versatility. In early spring, it works as a shell jacket; in cooler weather, you can use the liner jacket; and in winter, you can combine the shell and liner. The long period of usability is another reason I like it. I don’t just collect vintage items for display—I choose pieces that I can use practically, especially for outdoor activities. If it’s not practical, I won’t have many opportunities to wear it! (laughs) That’s something I’m particular about.

Do you have any stories related to those items?
I bought a “PFG 90s Wading Jacket” a while back, and it’s been incredibly useful for both everyday wear and wading (fishing while standing in rivers or the ocean). While there are many versatile pieces, it’s rare to find one that performs so well both in water and on the streets! (laughs) The rarity and limited availability of this item make it even more special to me.
